Requirements and Responsibilities

Clinical Informatics Manager manages a team designing, implementing, maintaining, and analyzing data from clinical informatics systems. Supervises the implementation of electronic health record (EHR) systems, bed management systems, computerized physician order entry systems, or any other relevant health information systems. Being a Clinical Informatics Manager analyzes and reviews analysis of data produced by these systems to identify trends and areas for improvement and to ensure systems are functioning properly. Evaluates and recommends improvements to systems. Additionally, Clinical Informatics Manager may provide staff training on new or updated systems. Requires a master's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN) license. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Clinical Informatics Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Clinical Informatics Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.
