Requirements and Responsibilities

CAD Manager manages a team of computer-aided design (CAD) drafters, designers, and/or technicians. Establishes departmental standards for software, techniques, and tools to prepare technical drawings. Being a CAD Manager utilizes CAD tools to facilitate benchmarking, concept design, prototype development, simulation, and testing protocols. Establishes deadlines, develops goals, and determines production standards for the department. Additionally, CAD Manager coordinates with engineers, designers, and/or CAD drafters to ensure stakeholder satisfaction with projects. Evaluates project results to design, develop, and implement guidelines and procedures to improve efficiencies. Recommends potential new uses for CAD within the organization. Uses knowledge of the field to keep the department's software, techniques, and tools up to date. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The CAD Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a CAD Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.
