VP of Underwriting

Requirements and Responsibilities
Leads and directs the overall underwriting strategy and operations. Oversees the team responsible for reviewing and analyzing risk characteristics on insurance applications, renewals, and change requests. Establishes financial control guidelines, tools, administrative standards, and best practices and ensures they are used to accept, reject, or mitigate risk for applications. Researches competitors and market conditions to develop and maintain risk selection criteria and methods that support sound risk management. Ensures compliance with all industry and governmental regulations. May require a master's degree. Typically reports to senior management. Manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. Typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience. Comprehensive knowledge of the overall departmental function.
