Geologist Manager

Requirements and Responsibilities
Manages geological activities and research for an organization. Delegates workflow to collect rock, soil, and mineral samples and acts as the lead geologist on the site. Studies variations in rock formations and densities to identify new mineral deposits. Estimates depth, quality and size of deposits. Tests mineral quality and purity to determine the feasibility of mining. Reviews technical reports and geological maps to recommend the best methods for extraction. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.
