Requirements and Responsibilities
Medical Records Technician organizes and evaluates patient medical records for an office. Reviews medical records for accuracy and completeness. Being a Medical Records Technician abstracts and codes clinical data using standard classification systems. May require an associate's degree or its equivalent. Additionally, Medical Records Technician typically reports to a supervisor or manager. May require Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). The Medical Records Technician gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Works under moderate supervision. To be a Medical Records Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience.
