Clinical Ethicist
|
|
Offers guidance to patients and their families and professional staff on ethical, legal and policy issues and concerns stemming from clinical interactions between health care professionals and patients. Provides guidance to institutional ethics committee pertaining to policy formulation, educational and case review activities. Develops institutional policies concerning ethical issues such as "do-not-resuscitate" and "withdrawal of life-support" situations. Requires a master's degree or doctorate related to health ethics and at least 5 years of experience in the field. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
