Performs various duties to assist surgeon during surgery: retracts tissues and ties suturing materials, starts intravenous solutions, inserts tubes and performs pap smears. Also examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. May require a master's degree with 2-4 years of related experience, and graduation from an accredited physician assistant program. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Typically reports to a physician. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
