Requirements and Responsibilities

Special Procedures Technician assists physicians with various interventional radiological procedures to diagnose and treat cardiac, vascular, and other conditions. Prepares and positions patients for treatment and examination. Being a Special Procedures Technician observes and monitors the patient's condition during treatment. Produces radiologic films of the body requiring specialized procedures to assist in the diagnosis of diseases and injuries. Additionally, Special Procedures Technician ensures all radiation safety procedures and standards are followed during treatment. Requires an associate degree in radiology or equivalent. Typically required American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) - (R) - credentials. Typically reports to a physician or manager. Special Procedures Technician's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.
