Requirements and Responsibilities

Materials Planning Director develops and directs the overall raw material planning and operations of an organization. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Planning Director utilizes MRP system to monitor material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control to develop master plans and forecasts to ensure material needs are met. Additionally, Materials Planning Director manages supplier relationships and negotiates lead times and favorable terms on recurring orders. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Materials Planning Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Materials Planning Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
