Materials Engineering Manager manages the scientific research, analysis, and experimental design processes involved in testing and evaluating materials for product usage. Provides technical oversight of projects and fosters technological development of the team. Being a Materials Engineering Manager establishes and maintains laboratory and analytical equipment capability for experimentation with materials. Conducts materials analysis and reviews product designs and specifications to determine feasibility. Additionally, Materials Engineering Manager reviews decisions, recommendations, and completed work to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency. Typically requires a master's degree in materials engineering. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Engineering Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.
