Diabetes Educator
Also referred to as: Diabetes Patient Educator, Diabetes Educator, Staff Nurse - RN - Diabetes Educator
Requirements and Responsibilities
Educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Requires a bachelor's degree and at least and certification as a registered nurse. Typically required to be a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.
