Chief Medical Officer

Requirements and Responsibilities
Directs the staff and programs of the organization's clinical programs. Works closely with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Oversees the implementation of quality improvement efforts designed to improve clinical performance and maintain compliance with JCAHO, HIPAA, and other accreditation standards. Evaluates developments in medical care and makes recommendations for new practices and procedures. Advises CEO and medical teams on matters impacting patient care. Requires an advanced degree of medicine. Typically reports to top management. Requires to be licensed to practice (MD). Manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. Comprehensive knowledge of the overall departmental function. Typically requires 8+ years of managerial experience.
